ON THE BACK BURNER

Part of my veggie delivery from my grandson was fresh edamame. I have only bought them frozen ,needing some boiling salted water to make them ready to eat. These fresh ones had a tough, thick stem with the edamame and some leaves growing on both sides of the stalk. Snow peas and other types of more familiar peas, seem more delicate. Maybe they are not even in the same family. I couldn't just pull the edamame off the stem, I had to use scissors to cut them off. I went to Google to learn how to cook them. I learned that they are poisonous to eat raw. That's a little troubling because my son wanted to see what they tasted  like raw,so he ate one. I guess the motherly thing would be to check on him. I thought that I had taught him not to put everything in his mouth.

PS. Edamame is the immature part of the soybean plant. In the same family as kidney beans, peanuts , peas and lentils.Part of the legume family. Cool .
