A delicious looking carrot cake popped up on my YouTube. It called for carrots, check, nuts, check and dates, check. I have never had dates in a carrot cake, and I wanted to use up the last of the dates that I have probably
had in the house ,for over a year. I like carrot cake,I had a taste for something sweet, so I decided to make it. I had flour, eggs, oil, cinnamon and nuts.
I realized that in my frenzy of decluttering, I threw out some really old spices, like the ones I needed for my carrot cake. And the rest of this tale is why this cake cost me $30.00. i needed, cloves, nutmeg and ginger. Now that I think about it, I have fresh
ginger and candied ginger. Bet I could have worked them into the recipe. I made a really quick trip down the hill to the grocery store for only those three spices and as an impulse purchase, a loaf pan,
which I didn't have. Grand total, $28.00. I am counting the carrots and the eggs and oil in the final total of $30.00. Verdict. I've tasted better carrot cakes, but my son thinks it's great. That's good enough for me.An extra bonus for me was that I met my
GiL in the parking lot of the grocery. Now that was special.
