ON THE BACK BURNER

It's not Indian Summer, but the weather has been so perfect. Flowers are still blooming in a riot of colors. The birds are still eating my plants and now the bunnies are coming . I don't know where the rabbits have been all summer, but everyone is talking about their sudden appearance. Around here, I think that cars are the predators of the deer, but birds of prey are on the look out for the rabbits and small dogs. It may be urban legend, but the site "Next Door" will some times have a posting about a  hawk trying to attack a small dog and carry it away.  The fruit trees are so prolific that neighbors put out baskets of fruit... yours for the taking . The secret is to get to it before the deer does. Local wineries are very popular here. This climate must be good for grapes. They look very inviting when I drive by them. I did visit one, two summers ago , when I was here for my first visit. Besides being able to try a variety of wines, the outdoor seating , facing the rolling fields of grapes, puts you in a great mood. Then you go,into their shop and buy more wine to bring home. They sure know how to market .
