Sept. 25

I hear that some turbulent weather may be heading for the  Tampa area. I definitely don't miss the stress of waiting to see if a hurricane is coming my way.  When I was a kid in N.O. hurricanes were a great adventure. They didn't seem so destructive  then .We relied on the Times Picayune( the spelling doesn't look right. I'll have to check. I did and that is how it is spelled) Newspaper and although we had a radio, I don't remember hearing any announcements. We filled the bathtub with water. That was all of our preparations. We never actually used the water. When we got to the age of TV, I don't remember any serious hurricanes. The big ones happened after I got married and moved away. My sister got the brunt of the hurricanes , ending with Katrina absolutely devastating her home and her life. Supposedly, this from  the early native Americans, Venice is protected by favorable spirits and from the shape of its coast line and hurricanes bypass our community. I hope for all of my friends, that is so.
