July 25

There are three days in the week that are special to me. Friday, because I make challah for everyone. Sometimes I miss the mark when it comes to consistency, but that's life. The next special day is Saturday because I go yard sale-ing with my son and any kid that wants to come along. This is followed by lunch, eaten in the car, overlooking a water source. We have a limited number of places for take out . This week it was Thai. Last week it was Chicago hot dogs. The driver chooses. I am always a passenger, and I am pretty easy to please, so whatever ,works for me.The last day of the week that is special is Sunday. Family meal Sunday. This week we had the father of my grandsons' girl friend. I don't like the word " girl friend". That works for high school, but when you are in your thirties, you are not a girl,  but a woman , a special woman . I need another word . Like " special friend" or  " my plus one". I'm working on getting just the right word. Today, I made cheese grits. I have a few specialities. I'd say that cheese grits is one of them. The secret, besides the best orange grits grown(Torbert's, get them on Amazon) plenty of butter and generous amounts of salt. I made serving for 12 and there were 7 of us today. No leftovers. After I cook them on the stove, I add the cheddar cheese and put everything  in a warmed crockpot. These are the real deal. The weather was perfect for eating outdoors and as a special treat, we had to put up the sun umbrella. Maybe it will be summer after all.
