Today was family meal and our numbers were down. Even with justa few of us at dinner, I managed to make a mess in what is my kitchen. I am always amazed that with so little space, I can cook everything that I want to cook.
Over the years, my kitchens have downsized along with the spaces that we needed to live comfortably. Our first kitchen in our Victorian house ,started life as a kitchen, a breakfast room and a butlers pantry and a huge pantry.
We opened up all of that space to make one large area. If we had waited 20 years, islands would be in fashion and we could have done that. The kitchens after that became more streamline, in keeping with living in a high rise. Now my kitchen is minimal, but
the food comes out just the same. Only the dishes,pots and pot covers have escaped to sit on the table,on the stove and on the counter. I sometimes want to use the two step ladder as a landing place for
some dirty dish, but so far,I've resisted.The satisfaction comes when everything is washed, dried and put away. I like that feeling.Then I can start thinking of next weeks menu.
