ON THE BACK BURNER

Aug. 28

I have been smelling gas for the last week, if not longer. No one else seemed to smell it. I was concerned enough that at night, I left windows open, just in case . Finally, my son smelled it. He checked every source of gas. He took apart the Dixie stove,he went under the trailer. Couldn’t find any leak. In the meantime, I made my Friday challah. Put it in the oven and timed it. Five minutes before the challah was to be finished, I opened the oven door to check. I used the insta read thermometer and planned on the extra five minutes to finish the baking. I checked the oven thermometer, saw that it was less than the 350 that I set it to, but sorta didn’t register that difference in my mind. Five minutes later, I checked the challah and saw that it looked about the same and now the oven thermometer was down more degrees. Then I tried a burner. Nothing. No gas at all. In a panic, because I was afraid I would blow up, I called my son, who rushed home. Problem .. ran out of propane. Solution,, fill up the tank. Lesson learned... when a tank is getting empty, it releases a gas smell. That was what was happening. I didn’t actually have a leak. But  now, at least, I know more about how gas works and where all  of the important things are in my trailer. The challah was perfect!

Everything sounds so wonderful Leona. Venice will seem boring . I would want to move to Portownsend where the kids are living. All sounds great . Is there?
