I am so glad that I can read. That opens up an entire base of knowledge. My Mother went to night school when she immigrated to America. You have to give her a lot of credit for that. She could read, write and do math. If I couldn't read,or even if I
didn't enjoy reading, I can't imagine what my life would be like. I remember going to the Nix Library in New Orleans since I was in kindergarten . It was a bleak, dreary library. But I got my first library card there. Then we moved "uptown" and started going
to the Latter Library on St. Charles Ave. I remember walking home from the library one afternoon and a man started following me. I went to the front door of one of those large mansions and ringing the door bell because I was scared. The maid let me in and
I stayed there until I felt like I could walk the rest of the way home. Now, I bet ,the police would be called, or the maid wouldn't have opened the door for me. I don't know why I didn't call my daddy for a ride home. But back to reading. I need to thank
Andrew Carnegie for building such beautiful lending libraries for us.
